Charities

The work of the world’s charities does a huge amount to improve the world we live in. Our passion for respecting and preserving the great outdoors, and for the humble bicycle, has led us directly to work with two particular charities – The Wilderness Foundation, and Wheels4Life.

The Wilderness Foundation

“The project has dramatically boosted my confidence and I now feel able to be myself. Where I was once reserved I now feel able to talk to people about my problems which has helped me to give up alcohol that I was using as a defence mechanism to block things out.” (Toni, TurnAround participant)

The Wilderness Foundation is a small UK charity promoting the value of the world’s last remaining wild areas. Their TurnAround project uses wilderness trails in the Scottish Highlands as a means to rehabilitate vulnerable youngsters from urban areas.

The way in which immersion in the natural world affects body and mind is clear to us, from our own experience on this expedition and from the results of these trails, which is why we want to support the project by raising £10,000 over the course of the expedition and its aftermath.

Please help us to reach this target by making a donation online through our secure page at Justgiving.com. Read more about The Wilderness Foundation.

Wheels4Life

We plan to work as ambassadors for Wheels4Life – a charity that provides bicycles for people in Third-World countries in need of transportation to get to work or to school, including health care workers and teachers.

This charity was founded by extreme biking legend and former Mountain Bike World Champion Hans Rey, who we were pleased to discuss the idea with before the start of our trip in 2007.

When the time comes, we’ll be looking out for communities where bicycles could improve the lives of those without a form of transport, and giving them the gift of mobility.
